Fidelity International is the business name used by FIL Limited, a Bermuda holding company for an international fund management business which operates in Bermuda, throughout Europe and in Asia. Originally founded in 1969 as a subsidiary of Fidelity Management & Research in Boston (see Fidelity Investments) it was spun out as an independent business in 1980. Since then, it has continued to operate as a private company owned by its management and the Johnson family from Boston.
FIL has significant operations in the UK (where is has operated since 1969) where it is a leading provider of Open Ended Investment Companies (OEICs - a replacement to what used to be unit trusts), as well as providing one of the most wellknown fund supermarkets, Funds Network. It also provides retirement products, especially through work place savings known as Defined Contribution pensions. It is also active in Germany, France, Luxembourg, Ireland and other countries in Europe. In Asia, FIL has offices in Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, South Korea, Australia, China and India.
In September 2011, FIL adopted a new trading name - Fidelity Worldwide Investments.
